Portal for eco-innovation

An EU team created a web portal to promote the use and transfer of eco-innovation information. Project results included an analysis methodology, the evaluation of over 190 cases and a breakdown of the sectors showing the most promise.

Recent years have seen many innovations in the green economy. Yet such developments may need assistance to reach their target audiences.

The EU-funded 'Maintaining all green and ecoinnovation results in a living portal' (GREENXPO) project aimed to facilitate the uptake of eco-innovation knowledge. The sources of information included Sixth and Seventh Framework Programme (FP6 and FP7) and Competitiveness and Innovation Programme (CIP) projects. The aim was to be accomplished through the creation of a web-based tool, intended to promote knowledge transfer of research and policy information. The target user groups included policymakers, business and the interested public. The consortium included nine European partners and one from Taiwan.

Partners successfully completed all project objectives in approximately half the planned time. The web portal went online in February 2014.

Initial stages involved developing a methodology for featuring eco-innovation knowledge, using functional analysis. The team identified and collected more than 190 cases in the areas of technology, non-technology, policy and networks. The study also developed a conceptual note on case analysis, allowing for case collection and further research.

GREENXPO promoted cross-sector information exchange in order to bring eco-innovation knowledge to conventional value chains. Hence, the group documented the industrial sectors showing the most promise in terms of the project's goals. The work also identified decision indicators relating to the cases.

Lastly, the project gathered the information in a single web-based portal, which fostered information exchange between target groups and information uptake. The project also created promotional and dissemination materials.

GREENXPO produced a web portal containing relevant eco-innovation knowledge. The portal fostered the exchange and use of information among key stakeholders.
