Building on work done by the projects EUROSIS and EuroSiS 2.0, the project
SIS.NET (Network of Science in Society National Contact Points) aimed to further strengthen the SiS NCP network. It targeted improved operations of each SiS NCP so they can provide more effective and better quality services to organisations in the EU, Associated Countries and International Cooperation Partner Countries (ICPC).
As such, the project's general objective was to continue networking activities and create seamless continuation in NCP activities. A particular focus was on knowledge transfer and sharing of best practices, as well as networking and cooperation with important stakeholders, including the European Commission. In effect, SIS.NET was established as an active working tool and environment for SiS NCPs until the end of FP7, and possibly beyond.
The central concept targeted further mobilisation of the SiS NCP network as a support mechanism for all SiS NCPs, mutual learning and capacity building, and communication of FP7 SiS objectives as well as issues towards the next FP, Horizon 2020.
SIS.NET realised all its objectives in the first reporting period, with networking activities within the project as well as the larger SiS NCP networks progressing in line with expectations. Successful internal mobilisation of the whole network of SiS NCPs was achieved through efficient communication and networking events and activities. Regarding external mobilisation of SiS stakeholders, the project exceeded expected impact through efficient events and activities such as a brokerage event and a European Parliament. Mobilisation of ICPC partners was successful by adding this dimension to the network through an ICPC partner organisation.
Mutual learning and capacity building involved training and exchange of best practices through organised trainings, network meetings and a mailing list. This helped SiS NCPs assisting each other in issues that arose during implementation of FP7 SiS calls. Work relevant to communication saw SIS.NET promoted as the network of SiS NCPs and as contributing to more successful promotion of the FP7 SiS programme.
SIS.NET and the SiS programme reached a wider audience, highlighting the network's success and the importance of responsible research and innovation in SiS interactions.
